About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to design, develop, test, and maintain scalable backend applications and enterprise services. You will work closely with product managers, frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps engineers, and other stakeholders to build reliable and maintainable software.

The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, relational databases, distributed systems, and cloud-native application development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.

  • Build and maintain secure, well-documented RESTful APIs and backend integrations.

  • Develop modular, maintainable, and testable code following established software engineering practices.

  • Work with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other relational databases, including schema design and query optimization.

  • Use JPA/Hibernate or similar ORM frameworks for database access.

  • Implement asynchronous and event-driven services using technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ where appropriate.

  • Develop applications using modern Java features, preferably Java 17+.

  • Write unit, integration, and API tests using frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.

  • Identify and troubleshoot application performance, reliability, and production issues.

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to coding standards and engineering best practices.

  • Collaborate with DevOps teams to build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automated deployments.

  • Containerize applications using Docker and work with cloud/container platforms where required.

  • Monitor application health, logs, metrics, and distributed services in production environments.

  • Contribute to system design, technical documentation, and architectural discussions.

  • Work in an Agile development environment and participate in sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives.

Required Skills

Core Java

  • Strong proficiency in Java 17 or later.

  • Solid understanding of:

    • Object-oriented programming

    • Collections and generics

    • Exception handling

    • Multithreading and concurrency

    • Java Streams and functional programming

    • JVM fundamentals

  • Strong understanding of common design patterns and SOLID principles.

Spring Ecosystem

  • Hands-on experience with Spring Boot.

  • Good understanding of:

    • Spring MVC

    • Spring Data JPA

    • Spring Security

    • Dependency Injection

    • REST API development

Databases

  • Strong SQL skills.

  • Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar relational databases.

  • Understanding of database indexing, transactions, normalization, and query optimization.

  • Experience with JPA/Hibernate.

APIs & Distributed Systems

  • Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.

  • Understanding of HTTP, authentication, authorization, and API versioning.

  • Familiarity with asynchronous processing and messaging systems such as Apache Kafka or RabbitMQ.

  • Understanding of distributed-system concepts such as retries, timeouts, idempotency, and fault tolerance.

Testing & Engineering Practices

  • Experience with JUnit 5 and Mockito.

  • Familiarity with integration and API testing.

  • Experience with Git-based version control and code review workflows.

  • Understanding of clean code, SOLID principles, and maintainable software architecture.

Cloud & DevOps

  • Experience with Docker and containerized applications.

  • Familiarity with at least one major cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps.

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building microservices using Spring Boot.

  • Experience with Apache Kafka or another distributed messaging platform.

  • Experience with Redis or another caching technology.

  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and container orchestration.

  • Understanding of observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK/OpenSearch.

  • Experience with API documentation using OpenAPI/Swagger.

  • Familiarity with Maven or Gradle.

  • Experience working with high-volume, low-latency backend systems.

  • Exposure to secure software development practices and OWASP principles.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
